NCSSE.3 - Cultural Leadership
School executives will understand and act on the understanding of the important role a school’s culture contributes to the exemplary performance of the school. School executives must support and value the traditions, artifacts, symbols and positive values and norms of the school and community that result in a sense of identity and pride upon which to build a positive future. A school executive must be able to “reculture” the school if needed to align with school’s goals of improving student and adult learning and to infuse the work of the adults and students with passion, meaning and purpose. Cultural leadership implies understanding the school as the people in it each day, how they came to their current state, and how to connect with their traditions in order to move them forward to support the school’s efforts to achieve individual and collective goals.
- Focus on Collaborative Learning Environment: The school executive understands and acts on the understanding of the positive role that a collaborative environment can play in the school’s culture.
- Keeping a positive culture in our school is my mentor's biggest concern. He takes advantage of every opportunity to engage teachers into collaboration. During a staff meeting we participated in a Jamboard where teachers shared strategies to raise parental/student involvement during these unpredictable times.
- School Culture & Identity: The school executive develops and uses shared vision, values and goals to define the identity and culture of the school.
- During the Human Resources course we were assigned to evaluate the current human resource management process at my residency site. To complete this assignment, I had to become familiar with the hiring process, mentoring, evaluations, teacher retention etc. Teachers at Cary High, They come to stay!
Acknowledges Failures; Celebrates Accomplishments and Rewards: The school executive acknowledges failures and celebrates accomplishments of the school in order to define the identity, culture and performance of the school. - Our winter graduation took place on January 21st . This time, we will be honoring our Seniors on May 1. We will use our football field for the event. The admin team is collaborating with the Seniors committee to make of this event, an unforgettable night for our Seniors. Students are allowed to bring a guess to the celebration. - Efficacy and Empowerment: The school executive develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which influences the school's identity, culture, and performance.

- Mayor Cooper declared that all students who which to participate in in-person learning will be returning to campus on April 8. Because of this decision, I was assigned to create a spreadsheet calculating the amount students register in our three different cohorts to have a clear view about classroom capacity. Social distancing still needs to be enforced.
