BIOGRAPHY
Nerey is originally from Panamá, a small isthmus located in Central America. The primary language in Panamá is Spanish, she learned how to speak English here in the United States. Nerey attended Kaplan University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Here she graduated Magna Cum Lade while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development. She also attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA where she earned a Master of Education in Teaching & Learning.
She started her teaching career 16 years ago at Agape Christian Academy in Lawrenceville, GA as a Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher. After 5 years of serving as an early childhood educator, she made the transition to teach World Language Spanish grades K-12 in private school settings. She received the Teacher of the Month award (October 2016) while teaching World Language Spanish at the elementary and high school level at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC. She is proud to be the first Spanish teacher to introduce the Hispanic Heritage celebration at Word of God Christian Academy (2015-16) and Wendell Middle School (2017). She became a part of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) family in 2011, left in 2013 to teach in private schools, and returned to WCPSS in 2017.
In May 2019, Nerey enrolled in the NC State Leadership Academy (NCSLA) program at North Carolina State University (NCSU) pursuing a Master in School Administration (MSA). As a school leader she desires to provide all children with a positive learning experience, to offer a sense of belonging among families from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to build relationships with the broader community.
When she is not serving students and the community, she spend time with her family, her husband of 21 years, three children, and two grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, listening to salsa music, exercising, meditating, and watching the sun rising and setting on the beach. She loves smoothies, Payday candy bar, and mozzarella sticks.
