NCSSE.5.d - Managerial Leadership
School executives will ensure that the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem solving, communicating expectations and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines in the building. The school executive must be responsible for the monitoring of the school budget and the inclusion of all teachers in the budget decisions so as to meet the 21st century needs of every classroom. Effectively and efficiently managing the complexity of every day life is critical for staff to be able to focus its energy on improvement.
School Resources & Budget: The school executive establishes budget processes and systems which are focused on, and result, in improved student achievement.
In our Finance/Budget course we were tasked to create a school budget that would change the trajectory of the school, student achievement, and culture. The purpose was to help residents understand how to use their budget in a way that moved the school in a better direction and create more opportunities for all student.
Systematic Communication The school executive designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Due to a medical leave, one of our teachers will not be able to finish the school year with her assigned courses. I created a letter explaining the situation to the parents of students attending her classes. In the letter I provided information about assignments and our plan to hire a long term sub. I also offered my email address to continue to provide feedback and to answer questions.
School Expectations for Students & Staff: The school executive develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
While reviewing the Cary High School expectations for Online Learning I was pleased by the critical detailed information it provides to its readers, it is readers friendly and easy to follow through. I would have added information regarding the use of PowerSchool and links to where parents/students can access daily assignments based on their academic courses. Also, the information is only in English, therefore non-English speakers would not be able to comply or encourage their children to follow the guidelines.
